Vulcaniser and tyre mechanics plan, maintain, test and service components and subassemblies of vehicles, par-ticularly inner tubes, tyres and wheels, fit special wheels and tyres onto vehicles, upgrade chassis, modify the visual appearance of vehicles, renew tyres, maintain and service belt conveyors, and produce and maintain rub-ber linings and rubber coatings.
Occupational skills
Vulcaniser and tyre mechanics carry out maintenance and servicing work independently and as part of a team, observing the regulations regarding environmental protection, work safety, health protection and quality assurance in a customer-oriented manner.
Vulcaniser and tyre mechanics:
- repair inner tubes and tyres
- operate vehicles and their systems
- localise damaged areas and faults and identify their causes
- use and maintain internal company tools, devices, machines and installations
- measure and test vehicle systems
- advise and inform customers
- apply standards and guidelines to ensure work and product quality, and contribute towards the improvement of work processes within the company
- plan and control working procedures and check, evaluate and document work results
- produce work pieces and components using manual and machine production techniques
- make use of computer-supported information and communications systems.
Specialists in tyre and chassis mechanics:
- maintain and service chassis, brakes, wheel-tyre systems, exhaust gas and air conditioning systems
- optimise the vehicle movement dynamics
- sell vehicle-specific products.
Specialists in vulcanisation mechanics:
- renew and service tyres on all vehicle types
- maintain and service belt conveyors
- produce and service rubber linings and rubber coatings.
