Phase I-Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Obtaining Phase-160 Hours of Instruction
In the event that an apprentice has obtained their CDL other than the Roehl Driver Training Academy, credit will be given for classroom and range time.

The following guidelines are used to determine if the driver can move into driver finishing.
Number of Unsatisfactory Marks | Percentage | Student |

20-23 | 74-70% | Additional coaching-must retake the driving skills evaluation until the student has less than 19 unsatisfactory marks |

Phase II-Driver Finishing Program
The student will then move into our driver finishing program. This program is primarily on-the- job learning minimum working one on one with a trainer in a truck. The student will receive a minimum of 160 hours total of driving instruction/over the road experience during this phase.

Upon completion of this phase, the student must complete a job skills evaluation as well as a driving skills evaluation to move onto the next phase of training. The student must obtain a 70% or better score on the job skills evaluation and have less than 12 unsatisfactory marks on the driving skills evaluation to be issued a truck to begin their solo training.
Phase III Developmental Driver Training/System Fleet Experience
Upon successful completion of the driver finishing program the apprentice will then enter the driver development phase, where the driver will work with a specially trained fleet manager who continues to provide a minimum of one hour of feedback and coaching instruction per week. The coaching sessions will continue for the remainder of the first year of the apprenticeship. In addition there is a requirement of a minimum of 6 hours of safety training per year, equating to 90 minutes a quarter. This is classroom-instructor led training. During this time the apprentice will have a minimum of 1,280 hours of on the job solo driving and a maximum of 1,800 hours

Phase IV-Second Year Apprenticeship Guidelines
The second year apprenticeship will continue solo driving with the following educational requirements.
- On the job solo driving-minimum 1560 hours, maximum 2600.
- Continuation of the one on one weekly, coaching session (50 hours per year)
- Trainer Foundations Class (40 Hours)
- Safety Training (6 hours)
- Self Paced-Independent Study in the following areas: (minimum of 48 hours)
- Driver Wellness-independent study-4 hours
- Customer Relations-independent study-4 hours
- Career Awareness-independent study-4 hours
- Logging-This is one on one training available with the driver development department-4 hours
- Advanced Roehl WayWeb based training-2 hours
- Backing-This is one on one training available with the driver development department-4-8 hours
- Close Quarters Training-(this is a class that must be scheduled/coordinated with Driver Development)-4-8 hours
- Progressive Shifting (this is a class that must be scheduled/coordinated with Driver Development)-4 hours
- Miles Per Gallon Time In Top Gear, Idle Time, Progressive Shifting, Slow Down, Stay Back (this is a class that must be scheduled/coordinated with Driver Development)-4 hours
- Working Through Conflict-4 hours-web based
- Discriminatory Harassment-2 hours-web based
- Gender Sensitivity-2 hours-classroom
- Skid Pad Training-this is held at various technical schools throughout the Midwest -8 hours
