Field of activity
Toy makers (m/f) manufacture toy figures, fabric toys and wooden toys, e.g. dolls, soft toys, doll’s house furniture, wooden vehicles and model railway accessories, working with different materials, in particular textiles, wood and derived timber products and plastics. In their work they are required to take into account aspects of health and environmental protection as well as economic considerations. Their field of activity also includes organizational duties relating to operations planning and production.
Occupational skills
Toy makers:
- carry out their duties independently, working from technical documentation;
- select appropriate textiles and process materials, wood and derived timber products and plastics on the basis of intended use and economic considerations and process them;
- prepare documents for the production sequence and technical data on work flows and record results;
- set up, operate, monitor and maintain tools, plant and machinery;
- prepare sketches and drawings and evaluate them;
- prepare cutting stencils, blanks and plastic parts ensuring rational use of materials;
- apply different surface treatment processes;
- connect components together into assemblies and finished products and assemble them, e.g. sew dolls’ clothes and outer fur-fabric shells and join body parts and components;
- decorate and finish products, e.g. dress, do the hair and paint the faces of dolls;
- carry out quality checks and take quality assurance measures;
- pack products decoratively.
