Field of activity
Textile mechanics in the field of weaving use their specialist skills to manufacture different type of (wide) fabric, while at the same time observing work safety requirements and taking into account quality and economic efficiency considerations. They are proficient in setting up and maintaining (wide) looms and have a thorough knowledge of the technical features and mode of operation of the plant and machinery. They are also trained to use point paper designs to produce sample data carriers for different textile patterns. Modern weaving technologies and systems allow the manufacture of woven goods in a wide variety of patterns for use in a wide variety of applications. Wide weaving involves the manufacture of fabrics of very varied designs in widths greater than 40 cm, e.g. dress and upholstery fabrics, terry towelling, bed and table linen and industrial fabrics.
Occupational skills
Textile mechanics in the field of weaving process technical documents and instructions, assess completed work and initiate necessary quality assurance measures. Their training enables them to assume responsibility for the tasks in their area of expertise and to work together with other operational divisions within the company.
Textile mechanics use the following skills acquired during their vocational training:
- identifying different textile raw materials and their products according to their properties and intended use;
- plotting textile designs and drawing up design specifications;
- processing materials and changing parts on weaving machinery;
- handling process and control systems, operational data collection and evaluation systems and electronically-controlled units on plant and machinery;
- preparing and adjusting preparatory machinery and weaving machinery and producing sample data carriers;
- monitoring workflows during all production stages;
- maintaining plant and machinery and rectifying mechanical and material-related faults and their causes;
- assessing production losses and initiating necessary quality assurance measures;
- collecting and evaluating technical data on machine parameters, workflows and completed work.
