They are responsible for ensuring the proper operation of plant and machinery, smooth throughput of materials and the correct execution of the finishing process. Raw textiles do not become usable until the appropriate finishing process has been selected and correctly applied, i.e. after they have been washed, bleached, dyed, printed, softened, waterproofed, mothproofed, given an easycare finish, etc. Specialists in the textile finishing industry work in the dressing, coating, printing and dyeing divisions of textile production operations.

- checking and preparing textile products for finishing;
- operating and monitoring textile finsihing plant, machinery, apparatus and ancillary equipment in the areas of dressing, coating, printing and dyeing;
- using operational data collection and evaluation systems;
- applying finishing processes to achieve different surface finish effects;
- maintaining plant and machinery and rectifying faults;
- assessing quality and initiating necessary quality assurance measures.
