Specialists in port logistics work on transit terminals and in warehouses for unit loads and bulk goods in sea and river ports.
Specialists in port logistics are responsible for:
- accepting export and import goods from different means of transport and checking the delivery based on the accompanying documentation
- inspecting goods for quantity, quality, identity and condition, and documenting the result
- selecting containers for transport, planning, conducting, checking and documenting loading operations
- compiling goods into loading units, unloading them into means of transport and securing them
- planning and organising working procedures in a customer-oriented manner, participating in planning and organisation processes and conducting quality assurance measures
- storing goods in the correct manner and processing storage goods in order to maintain their condition and/or in accordance with customer requirements
- processing dispatch and transit papers
- checking, loading/unloading and securing hazardous goods and applying measures to avoid risk
- using working materials and means of conveyance
- using company information and communication systems, standard software and workplace-specific software
- working within a team, communicating and cooperating with previous and forthcoming service providers and using their knowledge of foreign languages
