Sealing operatives apply waterproofing to surfaces or in structures, on roofs and terraces, under roof gardens, for traffic, tunnels and bridges and for landfill sites to protect them against ground moisture, groundwater and humidity. In their work they use various items of construction equipment such as gas burners, bitumen boilers, automatic welding machines, strength testing equipment and hoists. They work independently or in teams.

- secure the workplace to prevent accidents and danger;
- erect work and protective scaffolding and check safety in service;
- produce simple sketches, drawings and setting drawings and take measurements;
- check building materials and other inputs according to type and quantity;
- store and transport these materials;
- carry out simple wood, masonry, rendering, concreting and caulking work;
- check on site to determine the suitability of the selected proofing procedures, particularly in terms of heat and fire protection;
- test the condition and suitability of the surface to be sealed;
- carry out necessary repairs or other appropriate measures;
- evaluate weather conditions in relation to the type of proofing and take steps to protect the sealing
- work if operations are interrupted;
- prepare sealing operations on site and carry out the work independently;
- produce flashing, seals and settlement joints;
- incorporate insulating material;
- produce protective coatings and coverings;
- draw up building work reports and dimension sketches;
- check the quality of the sealing work.
