Saddlers work predominantly in workshops of trade and industrial companies. They produce leather, plastic, heavy fabric and textile commodities for the car, horse riding and luxury bag sector.
During their training, saddlers focus on one of three specialist areas: vehicle upholstery, riding saddles and luxury bags.
Saddlers:
- select materials and accessories according to their characteristics, their intended use and the requirements of customers
- evaluate leather according to its type, origin, tanning type and histological aspects
- process and modify leather, synthetic leather, textile surface coverings, plastics and metals
- plan working steps relating to the manufacture of upholstery products, specify processing techniques and document them
- handle tools, instruments, machines and technical equipment
- cut or stamp working and auxiliary materials in the correct manner according to the type of material
- complete different types of sewing and seaming work both manually and with a machine
- use different upholstery techniques
- affix fastening and sealing elements
- mount finished parts and add accessories
- carry out quality assurance measures
- observe basic safety, health protection and environmental protection principles
Specialists in vehicle upholstery:
- complete upholstery and covering work
- produce and mount roof covers and tarpaulins
- design interior coverings, produce them and mount them
Specialists in riding saddles:
- produce riding accessories and carriage riding articles, and adapt and repair them
- produce saddles, and adapt and repair them
- produce and repair leather sports articles
Specialists in luxury bags:
- develop and create designs for leather goods, taking into account fashion-related, functional and technological aspects
- produce suitcases, bags and small leather items in different designs and using different techniques, and repair them.
