Road and traffic engineering specialists work in the area of planning, building site supervision and monitoring, operation, maintenance and preservation of road and transport infrastructure networks and structures. They shape and operate the road traffic system and ensure traffic flow and traffic safety. This involves all traffic, including individual transport, cycle and pedestrian traffic, public transport and freight traffic. They work in administrations, firms of consultant engineers and building firms.
Road and traffic engineering specialists carry out drawing, calculating, design, commercial and administrative activities independently and in co-operation with others in the office and in the field. They work manually and with data and information processing systems, communications and telematics technology. They observe the Road Traffic Act, the provisions of public streets and roads law, of nature conservation and environmental protection as well as the regulations of road traffic engineering and road construction engineering.
