Field of activity
Precision machinists work in the fields of mechanical engineering, tool and die-making and precision engineering. They are active in the manufacture and maintenance of machines, instruments, systems and plant as well as stamped, cut and formed products and in the construction of devices and moulds.
Occupational skills
Precision machinists carry out their work independently and as part of a team, taking into account relevant regulations and safety regulations on the basis of technical documents and work assignments. They obtain information, plan and co-ordinate their work with superiors and colleagues as well as with downstream and upstream units, using German and English technical terms, and document their work. In doing this, they take measures to ensure quality, health and safety at work and environmental protection.
Precision machinists:
- plan and control work processes, monitor and evaluate work results,
- apply standards and guidelines for assuring product quality and contribute to the continual improvement of work processes in the company,
- measure and test mechanical and physical parameters,
- produce parts and components by means of manual and mechanical manufacturing processes,
- create and optimize programmes and operate numerically-controlled machines, equipment and plant,
- assemble, dismantle and take into operation machines, equipment, devices, systems and plant including associated control equipment and explain them to customers, carry out servicing work as well as fault-finding and malfunction searches and maintain machines, equipment, devices, systems and plant, including control equipment.
