Field of activity
The training is conducted in car repair shops and on the premises of vehicle manufacturers. Motor vehicle service mechanics maintain, service, test, diagnose, repair, fit and retrofit vehicles.
Occupational skills
Motor vehicle service mechanics conduct maintenance and repair work on vehicles and operational facilities independently and as part of a team. They identify errors and faults in electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and rectify them. They use computer-aided information and communications systems when drafting test protocols.
Motor vehicle service mechanics:
- diagnose the causes of errors and faults
- maintain and test vehicles and set their systems
- dismantle and assemble vehicles, components, subassemblies and their systems and repair them
- fit vehicles and systems with accessories and additional fittings
- inspect vehicles in accordance with road traffic regulations
- operate vehicles and their systems and put them into operation
- conduct servicing and maintenance work on vehicles
- plan work processes and ensure the quality of their work results
- advise and inform customers
