Make-up artists work independently according to conceptual instructions, for example for theatre, film, television, photo and show productions.
Occupational Skills
Make-up artists do primarily artistic work. They:
- develop creative plans for doing make-up,
- plan, calculate and organise their work,
- design the components necessary for the make-up and produce these, in particular wigs, hairpieces, beards, plastic parts and masks,
- do make-up using masks, hair, make-up, bald heads and plastic materials,
- create character types, historical and contemporary personalities – also taking into account ethnological characteristics – as well as fantasy and animal characters,
- design and realise special effects such as skin changes, action injuries and deformations,
- make sketches and graphic designs.
