Summary
Repairs and maintains, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment. Demonstrate knowledge and skills for qualifying as Journeyman. Applicable Job Qualification Requirements will be used as a guide in performing tasks and demonstrating knowledge in the following areas. Actual work time must be recorded in the Work Experience Log.
Skills
Perform General Bench Work
Including drilling, tapping, threading, reamlapping, counterboring, countersinking, filing, scraping, chipping, using screw extractors, torque wrenches, common hand/power tools; maintain tool crib; observe safety precautions.
Use and Maintain Test and Calibration Equipment
Including freon leak detector, stroboscope, dead-weight tester, lube oil testing equipment, temperature testing devices, vernier height gauge, pyrometer; perform hydrostatic tests.
Read and Interpret
Diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and operating specifications; interpret drawings and written specifications of manufacturers to determine how to install, maintain, align, place, or adjust machinery.
Operate, Maintain and Troubleshoot
Mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment such as galley equipment, laundry equipment, pumps, compressors, generators, oil purifiers, condensers, air-operated actuators; observe safety precautions.
Operate, Maintain, Troubleshoot and Repair
Refrigeration and air conditioning systems including testing, dehydration, and recharging; auxiliary power units to include testing, troubleshooting and repair; observe safety precautions.
Fabricate, Manufacture, Test and Install
Valve bonnet gaskets, rigid tubing, flexible hose assemblies, flange shields, packing rings.
Install, Repair, Test and Adjust
Thermal expansion valves, seal rings, relief valves, bearings, valve springs, gaskets, governors, pump couplings, rotors, heat exchangers; air pilot valves, actuators; isolate and correct ruptures in piping; observe safety precautions.
