Field of Activity
Glass technology process mechanics are employed in the areas of glass melting, the forming and production control of solid glass, flat glass, hollow glass, glass tubes and fibre glass. They are employed in the areas of further processing and finishing of the various glass products. They monitor, control and regulate the respective production processes and production facilities and carry out necessary supervisory and maintenance work independently and as part of a team.
Occupational Skills
Glass technology process mechanics:
- ensure material flow through provision and storage of working stock, auxiliary materials and production output;
- monitor, control and regulate production processes and facilities for glass melting and forming and apply quality control methods, independently and as part of a team;
- process, finish and improve glass and glass products using various methods, e.g. through abrasion, cutting, dividing, joining, forming, coating or by altering the glass properties;
- detect defects and failures in the production process, narrow down possible causes and take steps to eliminate them, independently and as part of a team;
- shut down production machines and equipment, independently and as part of a team, in particular to change production, retool production facilities and put them back into operation;
- carry out maintenance work on machines and equipment;
- use production logs and production process charts, monitor and document operating data for production and process control,
- apply quality management methods;
- ensure collaboration over the entire process through continuous communication and co-operation between the various departments;
- meet environmental and health protection requirements in carrying out their work.
