Electronics technicians for building and infrastructure systems provide technical and organizational services. They maintain, monitor, control and secure building and infrastructure systems and can also be employed in the construction of building and infrastructure systems.
Typical sites of employment are residential and commercial buildings, factory buildings, functional buildings such as hospitals, infrastructure facilities and industrial plants.
Electronics technicians for building and infrastructure systems work independently, observe the relevant regulations and safety rules and coordinate their work with the preceding and following activities. They often work as part of a team. They are qualified electricians within the meaning of the regulations for the prevention of accidents.
Occupational Skills
Electronics technicians for building and infrastructure systems:
- analyse user requirements and recognize potential dangers, design changes of facility and use for technical systems (electricity and communications systems as well as supply systems), agree changes with users and advise users;
- calculate costs, award contracts and accept third-party services;
- install building and infrastructure systems, carry out, or arrange for the carrying out of, modifications;
- configure the control devices of technical systems, test the functioning of systems and safety equipment;
- hand over the systems and instruct users in the operation of technical systems;
- inspect and maintain systems and equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s or operating standards and contribute to increased facility availability and efficiency; accept error messages, make error diagnoses, evaluate the potential risk of disturbances and take immediate measures;
- operate building and infrastructure systems in accordance with regulations, operator standards and user requirements;
- monitor technical systems in buildings with the help of automation and control systems, optimize the operation of such systems;
- carry out systematic searches for faults and disturbances, localize faults, carry out the repair of technical systems or arrange for the repair by the appropriate trades;
- monitor adherence to safety regulations, in particular regarding the provision of services by third parties and/or users, and take measures for ensuring safety in buildings;
- also work with English-language documents and communicate in English.
