Field of Activity
Construction finishing workers work both on new constructions and on refurbishment, modernization and rehabilitation projects at various job sites, for example on housing developments, public-sector construction projects, and industrial building sites. In accordance with their specialism they build timber constructions, lay tiles, lay screeds, apply and cover insulating materials against heat, cold, noise and fire, and build structures using dry construction techniques.
Occupational Skills
Construction finishing workers carry out their work on the basis of technical documents and job orders, both independently and in cooperation with others. They plan and coordinate their work, set up construction sites, determine the individual work steps required and take the measures required for health and safety at work and to protect the environment at the job site. They check their work to ensure error-free execution, document their work and clear their work site.
When carrying out the following activities, building construction workers use plant and machinery, they erect and dismantle scaffolding for work, protection and support purposes and measure constructions and elements thereof for proper fit.
Construction finishing workers specializing in carpentry:
- build timber constructions, for example for ceilings, roofs, half-timbered structures and timber-frame constructions, using various techniques,
- carry out trimming and joining work taking account of structural timber protection considerations,
- build and fit doors, gates and straight stair flights,
- build construction elements using dry construction techniques,
- build furrings and claddings,
- process and treat wooden surfaces,
- apply materials to insulate against heat, cold, noise and fire.
Construction finishing workers specializing in stucco work:
- section areas taking account of design considerations,
- prepare base surfaces,
- clad wall surfaces with dry plaster linings,
- prepare plasters for different applications and carry out plastering on wire lathing,
- create sections of stucco moulding on the workbench, relocate them and plaster them into position,
- erect walls made of plasterboard sections,
- build prefabricated walls using dry construction techniques, in particular wall sections made of sandwich-type plasterboard and gypsum fibreboard, and install prefabricated construction elements,
- apply materials to insulate against heat, cold, noise and fire,
- identify damage in connection with rehabilitation and refurbishment projects, determine the cause of the damage and carry out the corresponding rehabilitation and refurbishment measures.
Construction finishing workers specializing in tiling and mosaic work:
Construction finishing workers specializing in screed work:
- select tiles and mosaics taking account of design considerations for the surface to be covered,
- prepare base surfaces,
- prepare plasters and screeds,
- lay tiles and mosaics using the thin-bed and thick-bed laying methods,
- make claddings and coverings for composite, vertical, horizontal and sloping surfaces,
- build and mount casings and facings,
- mount prefabricated elements using dry construction techniques, in particular sanitation system units,
- weight-carrying constructions and prefabricated walls,
- seal the joints in tile and mosaic claddings and coverings,
- apply materials to insulate against heat, cold, noise and fire.
- prepare base surfaces,
- prepare screed mortar using different bonding agents,
- lay various types of screed as sloping layers and levelling topping with reinforcement members,
- lay sandwich layers, screeds on separation layers and floating floor coverings both manually and mechanically,
- lay prefabricated screeds based on different systems,
- select boards, sheeting and laminates for floor covering purposes taking account of the design of the surface to be covered,
- lay coverings made of boards, sheeting and laminates,
- build structures using dry construction techniques, for example special constructions for floors,
- apply materials to insulate against heat, cold, noise and fire.
Construction finishing workers specializing in thermal and noise insulation work:
- process materials to protect surfaces, for example steel and non-ferrous sheeting and plastics,
- build supporting and load-bearing constructions,
- prepare elevations and developed views from templates and models for fittings,

- jacket insulation materials with sheet metal, foil, sheeting and wrapping,
- build and fit inner linings for cooling chambers,
- build construction elements using dry construction techniques.
Construction finishing workers specializing in dry construction work:
- prepare elevations and setting drawings,
- prepare base surfaces,
- mount furrings,
- clad walls with dry plaster linings,
- erect walls made of plasterboard sections,
- erect prefabricated walls made of various materials and from different systems,
