Summary
Smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, walks, sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. Align forms for sidewalks, curbs, or gutters; patch voids; use saws to cut expansion joints. Demonstrate knowledge and skills for qualifying as Journeyman. Applicable Job Qualification Requirements will be used as a guide in performing tasks and demonstrating knowledge in the following areas. Actual work time must be recorded in the Work Experience Log.
Skills
Rodding Concrete
Waterways; spillways; floor slabs; sidewalks; curbs and gutters.
Hand Floating
Darby and float furnish – waterways, spillways, floor slabs, sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
Patching and Rubbing Exposed Concrete
Cut out defective or excess concrete; mix and apply dry-pack; point up and burlap-finish exposed concrete.
Surface Finishes
Smoothes and finishes surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures, using hand tools or power tools, including floats, trowels, and screeds.
Troweling, Edging, and Jointing Flat Surfaces
Hand trowel finish concrete surfaces; power trowel finish concrete surfaces; edge concrete surfaces; layout joints in special designs (square, diagonal, etc.); joint and form drains.
Finishing Steps, Plain or with Nosing or Overhang
Finish to grade; install safety treads; form drain; form cove.
Dry-Packing or Grouting Base Plates
Dry-pack machinery bases; dry-pack column bases.
Pointing Up Concrete
Point up precast slabs; point up steel stash encased in concrete.
Miscellaneous
Apply hardeners; apply colors; form base – plain and cove; flush and projecting.
