Summary
Demonstrate knowledge and skills for qualifying as Journeyman. Applicable Job Qualification Requirements will be used as a guide in performing tasks and demonstrating knowledge in the following areas. Actual work time must be recorded in the Work Experience Log.
Skills
Pumping
Operate 50, 100, 350 and 600 GPM pumps. Operate 4″ and 6″ manifolds. Operate multiproduct fuel systems. Use hose evacuation kit for 4″ and 6″ hose lines. Operate base/station pumps. Transfer bulk product to and from small containers. Refuel ground vehicles and aircraft. Receive and issue bulk fuel from/to tank vehicles/rail cars Operate pipeline manifolds.
Gauging
Gauge storage tanks. Gauge rail tank cars, tank vehicles, barges, tankers and collapsible tanks. Correct measured quantities to net quantities of product at 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Load and unload rail tank cars, tank vehicles, barges, tankers and collapsible tanks.
Sampling
Obtain water cuts and bottom samples of storage tanks, rail tank cars, tank vehicles, barges and tankers. Perform loading and unloading sample operations. Perform API (specific) gravity test, visual color test and contamination determination for petroleum products. Perform preloading inspections of containers. Perform manual sampling procedures in accordance with ASTM method D-4057.
Unit Operations
Amphibious Assault Fuel System. Operate hose/pipeline pump station. Operate beach unloading station. Operate dispensing station. Operate booster station. Operate tank farm. Operate drum unloading station. Operate Helicopter Expedient Refueling System. Operate Tactical Airfield Fuel Dispensing System. Operate Expedient Refueling System. Perform maintenance on 50, 100, 350 and 600 GPM pumps. Perform maintenance on all bulk fuel components.
Safety and First Aid
Practice/monitor safety procedures in handling petroleum products. Operate and maintain portable fire fighting equipment. Participate in first aid classes/procedures for personal contamination by toxic materials and petroleum products. Participate in petroleum firefighting classes/procedures.
Quality Control
Participate in reclamation of petroleum products. Test for API gravity of petroleum products. Perform visual inspection of petroleum products. Test products with the AEL Mk III and Mk IV. Perform test with distillation, ASTM method D-86. Perform test for flash point, ASTM method D-93. Test for particulate contamination, ASTM method D-2276. Determine states of contamination and deterioration of petroleum products. Test for fuel system icing inhibitor in aviation turbine fuels using the B-2 test kit. Re-circulate petroleum products. Rotate packaged petroleum stocks.
