Building mechanics for demolition and concrete cutting work both on existing stock and in new building as well as in renovation, modernisation and restoration on various building sites, for example in house building, in public building and in commercial and industrial building. They carry out demolition work, planned dismantling as well as drilling and cutting work on technical plant, buildings and parts of buildings made of brickwork, masonry, concrete, reinforced concrete, steel and timber.
Occupational Skills
Building mechanics for demolition and concrete cutting carry out their work independently on the basis of technical documents and job orders, working alone or in cooperation with others. They plan and organise their work, coordinate it with other trades involved in building, set up building sites, take measures to guarantee the work process as well as to ensure safety and health protection at work and environmental protection on the building site. They inspect their work for error-free performance, document their work, carry out quality assurance measures, calculate services provided and hand over the vacated building site.

- produce and install concrete reinforcement and prefabricate reinforcement units,
- inspect fresh and hardened concrete,
- transport, pour and compact concrete, treat the surface manually and with the aid of machinery,
- cure concrete,
- produce, store, transport and install reinforced concrete components,
- seal constructions of concrete and reinforced concrete against humidity,
- produce exterior and interior walls using various stones and slabs in various types of bonds,
- install insulation material for heat, cold, noise and fire protection,
- carry out protective and safety measures for the performance of drilling, cutting and demolition work,
- carry out drilling work using drills and drilling rigs,
- carry out cutting work using construction machinery and equipment,
- produce joints,
- carry out demolition and dismantling work using construction machinery and equipment and employing various techniques,
- operate and maintain construction machinery, equipment and vehicles, and
- separate and store demolition waste and arrange for its disposal.
The first two years of vocational training to become a building mechanic for demolition and concrete cutting take into account the training for the 1st stage of the multi-stage training in the building and construction industry – building construction worker with emphasis on concrete and reinforced concrete work.
