Field of Activity
Building materials testers work in companies operating in the building industry, as well as in institutes and monitoring and research organisations which conduct geotechnology, asphalt technology and building technology tests. They usually work in laboratories, but are also employed on building sites and in the field. Their scope of work focuses on geotechnology, mortar and concrete technology and asphalt technology.

Building materials testers:
- test and check the quality of building materials, their raw materials, building products, and the suitability of soils and recycled materials
- conduct measurements and inspections
- prepare, produce and take samples
- carry out quality assurance measures
- plan and document their work, record the quantities and time required, produce invoices for services provided and take measures to ensure safety and health protection during their work, as well as to protect the environment at their workstation
- check and evaluate work results
- explain testing procedures and test results to clients
- use working materials, raw construction materials, binding agents, admixtures and recycled materials
- apply regulations regarding building products, raw construction materials, soils, abandoned polluted areas and recycled materials
- use laboratory equipment
- process, evaluate, prepare and document data
- set up, secure and clear workstations
- handle and maintain laboratory instruments and facilities
- conduct their work independently and efficiently and in a client-focused manner according to work orders or plans, oth alone and in a team, and coordinate their work with other trades.
