Apprenticeship in the News:
- Asurion Launches State’s First Software Engineer Apprenticeship Program for Employees (Tullahoma News): Nashville-based tech care company Asurion announced that they are launching Tennessee’s first in-house apprenticeship for software engineers.
- No Degree Required: Apprenticeships Available in Industrial Manufacturing, Logistics and Distribution (WPTV): Some workers without a degree are dealing with an uncertain job market – and that’s where apprenticeship are filling a need.
- COVID-19 and State Shutdowns Take a Serious Strain on Construction Industry (CBS 6 Albany): The Department of Labor says apprenticeships in the building and construction trades went up in the last year, but for now, apprenticeships have been postponed if their work has not been deemed essential.
- Students Get Virtual Tour of Plumbers and Pipefitters Apprenticeships (Business Journal Daily): Being selected for the apprenticeship program through Local 396 Plumbers and Pipefitters is similar to going to college with one major exception: students pay for higher education while apprentices get paid.
- $66,000 in Grants for Apprenticeships (Daily Journal of Commerce): The Washington State Department of Commerce said it awarded $65,683 in grants to bolster professional education and training programs aimed at getting more skilled workers into the construction, medical and aerospace industries.
- Training and Apprenticeship Pave a Path to Success After Incarceration (Pioneer Human Services): Pioneer’s training programs provided a boost of confidence, an entry back into the workforce, and a path to success after incarceration.
- Employer innovations in light of COVID-19: AAI grantee South Seattle College shared that one of their employer partner sites has been crucial in the fight against COVID-19. SEA-LECT Plastics produced injection-molded plastic parts for the newly designed “Montana Mask,” which was spearheaded by the AJAC apprentice, Nathan Hall.
