- S. Department of Labor (DOL) Funding Available for State Apprenticeship Expansion Grants: DOL announced the availability of $73 million in state apprenticeship expansion grants aimed at expanding apprenticeship throughout the country. States must submit all required documents here by May 21, 2020.
- ASE/SAE Webinar on “Collaborative Solutions for Increasing Diversity of Apprenticeship Participants”: Join presenters Andrea Hill (DOL), Jennifer Jirous-Rapp (Maher & Maher) and Ben Williams (National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity) on June 4 at 3pm ET as they share knowledge and resources about increasing diversity in apprenticeship. Registrants will also hear insights from states who participated in the Diversity of Apprenticeship Participants Innovation Cohort. For more info and to register, please visit here.
- Jobs for the Future’s “Growing Opportunities in Manufacturing through Bilingual Upskilling”: The Labor Institute for Training in Indianapolis secured $3.2 million in ETA funding through a TechHire Grant in 2016. The purpose of this initiative was to increase the pipeline of highly qualified and diverse individuals prepared to enter middle- and high-skilled occupations in Indiana’s manufacturing sector. The project also aimed to strengthen systems and capacity, addressing a lack of skilled-job training opportunities in advanced manufacturing for limited English proficient students and workers.
- Workforce Central Podcast “E93: The Future of Career, Technical and Adult Education”: Scott Stump, the Assistant Secretary of Career, Technical and Adult Education at the U.S. Department of Education (DOE), joins the program to reveal the work that the DOE is doing to ensure that all students have the education and skills that they need to find meaningful employment. Discover the acceleration towards digital learning and the changing nature of delivering education to students. Scott also shares his thoughts about the need to move past a “one size fits all” approach to education and how workforce boards can be part of the solution.
- Jobs for the Future “Horizons 2020”: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, JFF has transitioned Horizons 2020 from an in-person meeting to a free virtual event June 8–12, 2020. They plan to reconvene in person in New Orleans in June of 2021.For more information, visit the FAQ page.

- College of DuPage Connecting Higher Education to Workplace (Patch): The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity awarded approximately $220,00 joint federal/state funds which will allow Project Hire-Ed to expand resources and accelerate College of DuPage’s progress towards apprenticeships.
- Northwest-Shoals Community College Offering Free Summer Pre-Apprenticeship Program (WHNT News 19): Northwest-Shoals Community College is starting a new career readiness program that’s free and open to the public called CTE 101. It offers certifications in national career readiness, manufacturing processes and production, financial literacy, and more.
- Digital Transformation and Digital Divide Post COVID-19 (Forbes): The need to acquire new digital skills that better prepare the workforce for the workplace of the future might have accelerated during COVID-19, but the writing has been on the wall for quite some time.
- Agency Launches Industry-Recognized Apprenticeship Program Portal (Concrete Products): DOL’s Industry-Recognized Apprenticeship Program Standards Recognition Entities online application portal has gone live.
