- AAI Sector Specific Calls: Throughout June, AAI grantees are invited to join in peer discussions focused on sector-specific needs, challenges, and solutions. These discussions will offer grantees working in similar industries to learn from each other about how they are adjusting in response to current events. The goal is that these conversations will ultimately lead to more productive and informed conversations with employers and improve outcomes for apprentices.

- Webinar on Grant Closeout: Tuesday, June 30 from 3-4pm
- This Closeout presentation will review the reason and framework under which the closeout process has been established. It will identify the different elements of a closeout package and the closeout process timeline for submission. Lastly, we will highlight several areas that may impact an organization’s ability to successfully navigate the closeout process.

- Apprenticeship Partnerships with Community Colleges in Economic Recovery (NGA Center for Best Practices): Apprenticeship will be critical to strategically retool and recalibrate programs and partnerships to support working learners and businesses as states gear-up for economic recovery. The NGA Center is hosting a webinar on Tuesday, June 23rd from 2-3:00pm ET highlighting the U.S. Department of Labor Expanding Community College Apprenticeship initiative and how one grantee, Grand Rapids Community College, has partnered with an employer and a local workforce board, West Michigan Works!, to expand apprenticeship successfully during the pandemic. We’ll also discuss how their work has changed during the pandemic and how they are embedding apprenticeship into larger economic recovery efforts. You can register in advance for this webinar HERE.
- Collaborative Solutions for Increasing Diversity of Apprenticeship Participants (S. Department of Labor): This webinar held on June 4 highlighted experts in the field and included resources on increasing diversity in apprenticeship. You can find a recording of the webinar, an executive summary, and transcript here.
- The Department of Labor has published the sixty-day PRA notice for information collection titled, “The Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration is soliciting comments concerning a proposed authority to conduct the information collection request titled “IRAP Program and Performance Reports for Standards Recognition Entities.” Comments are invited by July 27, 2020, and must be submitted electronically through the Federal eRulemaking Portal at http://www.regulations.gov by selecting Docket ID ETA-2020-0003. As a reminder, AAI grantees cannot use AAI grant funds towards IRAPS or IRAP development.
- Mentorship Matters™: On the June AAI Learning Network call, Judy Reed from South Seattle recommended Mentorship Matters™ as a helpful tool to creating a structured mentorship system in apprenticeship programs. It is an on-the-job mentoring program that enables clients to establish and apply industry best practices in knowledge and skill transfer between journeypersons and apprentices. Since its inception, thousands of apprentices and journeypersons across North America have been trained using this program, with results in increased skills acquisition, productivity and safety, intergenerational communication and enhanced job satisfaction and retention. - 50-State Comparison: Statewide Apprenticeships (Education Commission of the States). This resource provides a national comparison of state policies and programs related to statewide apprenticeships. It focuses on state-level policies regarding apprenticeships, apprenticeship registration agencies, statewide programs, coordinating entities, and intentional connections between apprenticeships and postsecondary education.

- Assembly Panel Clears Lopez, Reynolds-Jackson ad Timberlake Bill to Create Apprenticeship Mentoring Program for Women, Minorities and Disabled New Jerseyans (Insider NJ): With the goal to empower underrepresented groups in apprenticeship programs, the Assembly Labor Committee advanced legislation to establish an apprenticeship program for women, minorities and individuals with disabilities.
- Nashville State Continues Culinary and Hospitality Apprenticeship Program (Nashville Scene): Nashville State Community College has committed to expanding their commitment to load up the service pipeline with recent graduates by offering several different apprentice programs for young hospitality workers to acquire real-life experience in the industry.
- Boulder Tech Company Pledges to Hire 100 People of Color as Apprentices – and Eyes Partnerships to Ensure Success (Denver Business Journal): Techtonic is launching an effort to onboard 100 Black and Hispanic apprentices, and set them up for a successful career in tech. - Precision Metalforming Association Members Express Optimism for the Summer (Crains Cleveland Business): A new apprenticeship program from the Alliance for Working Together Foundation in Mentor aims to create a stronger pipeline of workers for area manufacturers.
- Triad Apprenticeship Program Expands into IT Arena, Welcomes 22 New Students (Biz Journals): Randolph County companies have admitted 22 new students through Apprenticeship Randolph, including for the program’s newest track, information technology.
- Federal Grant to Help Place Area Students in Welding Jobs (Vindy): Four area career and technical centers are looking to place student in welding and machining programs into pre-apprenticeships with local manufacturers.
- Youth Apprenticeship Programs Adapt to Meet Crucial Needs in Pandemic (New America): As communities across the U.S. scrambled to adapt to dramatic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 public health crisis, youth apprenticeship programs adapted quickly to support apprentices, educators, employers, and other key partners.
